I had an amazing meal at Sabor Lagos yesterday. My friend, Jane took me out to lunch and when she suggested Sabor I sprang up like.. *ahem.. I was sha up.
As a proper foodie, I follow lots of food pages on Instagram and mentally queue them up as I prepare myself to go eat there. So, Sabor had been on my mind and when they posted their seafood scampi it was clear that the good lord had only good things planned for me this week.
Google Maps led me straight to 14 Adeola Hopewell, but the lack of a sign board did nothing to reassure me I was in the right place. However, the empty dining area meant I didn’t have to tone down the play by play theatrics of my anecdotes, may as well payback a free meal with entertaining company right?
Usually, I only enjoy calamari in a sauce but the entrée was so nice, I only got a picture after some bites. The breaded calamari had subtle hints of garlic and I’ve always been a sucker for fried garlic.
When Jane’s Mediterranean Chicken salad emerged, we were both underwhelmed, it looked very uninspiring, but when she poured her dressing on it, she loved it. So, maybe all it needed was a more appealing presentation.
I’ll forgive mediocre food if the drinks are good, and my peach ginger drink aptly called the Peach mule was sweet with a kick. It was all kinds of amazing especially as I am fighting a cold.
I didn't have to do any forgiving though because my seafood scampi … Ah! -my creamy and spicy, muito saboroso scampi- The only thing that pained me was that I was not at home to lick the plate like the real village girl that I am.
Alas, I did not like the cheese cake, it was New York styled, dense and not at all cheesy. I guess with cheesecake it’s a matter of personal taste.
Of course I stuck a spoon in my friend’s Almond nut brownie *for the sake of this review. I usually do not like brownies but this was very good, even though I did not get any nutty flavours.
I will do Sabor Lagos again ASAP because the answer to pasta in a creamy seafood sauce is alway yes. I loved the portion, it was perfect for me. With most other places , I can’t finish the food and so I take it away and try to have the leftovers hours later. Let’s just say old seafood is a bad idea but I never learn. Others may not like the size as much.
Even if all the other drinks are a letdown, the peach mule was good enough to be a personal signature drink. The prices were reasonable an average of 3500Naira and can be viewed on their online menu.
