At a stage whereby Nigerian Hip-hop seems to be getting little or no recognition. It is usual to see a brand endorse the genre, but Martell boldly takes on the risk/responsibility in its new 2019 CYPHER.
The Hip-hop genre in Nigeria has been fading off the minds of the people over the years. Afropop has taken the front seat as the main genre in the country. However, Hip-hop “activist” and one of Nigeria’s greatest rappers- M.I Abaga; proves to the world that the misconception that Nigeria does not have good rappers is false. Most of this misconceptions arise from the lack of support given by Local media houses. Thus, many rappers go unrecognized and feel the need to confine to making more radio “friendly” songs in order to gain recognition. M.I criticizes this decision on his single - “You rappers should Fix up your Lives”
Regardless of that fact that Hip-hop has taken a back seat in the Nigerian music scene. M.I as a brand ambassador for Martell, teams up with Blaqbonez, A-Q and Loose Kaynon in a dope Cypher. In hopes to change the narrative on Nigerian Rappers, and also get other brands to endorse the genre. However, the icing on the cake would be to actually get these rapper to fix up their lives and stay true to their craft. Although, many people argue it is not profitable to be a rapper in Nigeria, We would like to know what you guys think.
Watch the video and let us know what you think! Is there hope for Rappers in Nigeria?
